To help celebrate Ex-Centris’ fifth anniversary, the Magnifico team is pulling out all the stops: everything will be absolutely free. Four open-air screenings, eight premieres, the much-anticipated CinéOké, the very first Festival du Film Fauché (No-Budget Film Festival), the 12th Intercollégial du cinéma étudiant (showcasing the year’s best student shorts), our four favourite Quebec films of the year, and Main Kids. It all adds up to a friendly and festive cinematic feast; out in the street or within Ex-Centris. Not to be missed!
This year, Magnifico is calling all film buffs, budding actors and anyone ready for fifteen minutes of stardom for a chance to shine! CineOke fever has been sweeping major cities in the United States and will soon reach Montreal as part of a cabaret-style show at the seventh edition of MAGNIFICO * the Al Fresco Summer Film Event. The concept is simple: Enthusiastic volunteers from the audience (who don’t take themselves too seriously) choose a movie scene from a predetermined list. The scene is screened behind them, and they act it out alone or with another person. But be warned: the experience may be highly addictive.

Verdun wanted a way to make sure everybody has a ball, so last spring 19-year city council vet Laurent Dugas convinced the borough to put $200,000 aside for the world's only ball festival. "We noted that there was a lack of activities on the waterfront so we thought about putting this on," says Dugas, in a rather excited tone. "There'll be activities with every type of ball, and we'll even be putting up hot air balloons, all on the waterside. There'll be loads of things to do, and contests."

The orbs will start being launched around 4 p.m. on Friday, as participants indulge in football, tennis, basketball, volleyball, baseball, pétanque and soccer, through to Sunday evening. If that's not frenetic enough, there's a BBQ, an outdoor café, a pool party and free balloon rides Friday and Saturday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Plus there'll be musicians and clowns, all of which will culminate in a big show Sunday evening at

8 p.m. on the waterfront near Allard, starring singers Eve and Wilfred.

John Gallagher, another Verdun council vet, credits Dugas with the plan and promises to be there. "But I'm not at the age to be out playing sports," he says. To find the festival, look up and follow the balls, or else simply scoot over towards the riverside in Verdun (behind the Verdun Auditorium might be a place to start). This Saturday, the Represente event (part of the Under Pressure 2004 weekend) convenes in Peace Park, right beside the SAT on St-Laurent street, just above René-Lévesque street(near Chinatown). This over-the-top hip hop extravaganza - organized by Café Graffiti, Montreal Underground.
Le Ligue d'Improvisation Hip Hop du Québec join Sans Pression, DEE, Lyrical Assault, Manspino, Phast and more at Represente, at Peace Park on Saturday, Aug. 14, 1 p.m.–9 p.m., free.

2. Créolité - Haitian music, dance and poetry.
Free. From 8:30pm.
In Theatre de Verdure. It is an outdoor stage.

The four-day music festival will be held in the magnificent decor of Ahuntsic Park, in the north end of Montreal. Right behind metro Henri-Bourassa station .
How to get there?

The Ahuntsic Park is loacated in front of the metro Henri-Bourassa station, between St-Hubert street and Lajeunesse boulvard.

Opening hours of the site and contribution?

Thursday and Friday at 5:00 pm
Saturday and Sunday, the site opens at 11:00 pm for the kids and Teens Zones.

Contribution of $2 after 6:00 pm

Restauration is availbable on the site (fast food), Bistro SAQ - Wine &Cheese, Souvenirs Boutiques Renaud Bray (t-shirts, CD, hats, etc.)

Security

• Glass contents , bottles or cans are not permitted on the site.
• Animals are not permitted on the site.
• Bicycles, roller blades and skate boards are not permitted on the site.
