据加拿大医学界最新公布的一份报告，新移民来到加拿大的时间越长，其健康就越糟糕，而造成此现象的一个重要原因是言语不通，难以对医生描述自己的身体状况。  这份报告是里贾纳大学(University of Regina)最新的研究成果，并发表在《加拿大公共卫生期刊》(Canadian Journal of Public Health)上。 主持这次研究的德尔格曼医生(Michele Degelman)表示，她的团队统计了2011年至2012年加拿大社区健康调查的数据后，发现刚刚抵达加国的新移民，健康状况往往比同年龄段的加拿大本地人要好。可是随着时间的过去，他们的这个优势逐渐消失，健康状况也越来越差。 出现这一现象的原因是新移民疏于定期的健康健康。德尔格曼医生表示：定期检查可以采取预防措施，也可以及时发现疾病，从而尽早接受治疗。可是与本地人相比，新移民不怎么定期看医生，有的人甚至长期没有家庭医生。 德尔格曼医生继续说，其他研究显示，新移民不注意检查身体不仅仅是生活压力大、急于安家，语言障碍和文化差异也是重要因素。 据联邦统计局早前公布的一份调查指出，无论男性、女性，新移民如果语言(英法)听说能力有限，会在来加拿大的四年以后影响健康状况。语言熟练后，对健康好转似乎有所帮助。 该研究还发现，对于男性新移民而言，导致健康状况下滑的其它原因还包括因身份(例如难民)饱受歧视;至于女性新移民中，影响健康状况的原因还包括年龄偏大、就医困难和心理上觉得周围环境不友善等。 萨省省会里贾纳(Regina)移民服务机构的RODS的发言人渥德斯(Getachew Woldeyesus)说，几年前他们已经认识到德尔格曼医生在报告中提到的这个问题了。从那时起，他们就致力于帮助新移民获得医疗保健和了解本地卫生系统。 不过，渥德斯也承认，虽然他们举办了各种免费检查身体、开办公共卫生诊所等活动，但是语言仍是一个巨大的障碍。有的时候移民病痛难当找到他们帮助，却描述不出自己的身体状况，而且也找不到翻译，这令人十分着急。 附：加拿大看病常用英语(来源：网络) (1) 一般病情： He feels headache, nausea and vomiting.
