2004年06月07日 　　据加拿大医学会杂志报道，加拿大的两座主要城市蒙特利尔和卡尔加里的医院今年以来收治了相当数量的遭到一种特殊病菌袭击的患者，截至目前已造成约９０人死亡。
　　据报道，这种病菌属于梭状芽胞杆菌属，它侵袭人体结肠部位，并产生一种毒素导致被感染者出现严重腹泻和发烧症状，情况严重的时候医生甚至不得不将病人的结肠部切除。医务人员说，这种病菌存活于受到污染的表面，能存活数日甚至数周，而且对一般的消毒剂有抵抗力。
　　蒙特利尔市的患者最早在２００３年或２００４年初时就受到感染。
