Before I go to see these two cars, really want to know what you think:

-Toyota Corolla VE 98,100k $8,300
some comments say lots of headache with this model. Even no ABS with VE!  

-Subaru Legacy 95 14k $7,600
I know this legacy has two model, sedan or wagon. I did not call the owner so I don't know which model it is.

Subaru is very reliable family sedan, which has same size as other Japanese competitor's (Toyota, Honda, Nissan). Today, it looks smaller as other dramatically increase the size. 4WD need more gas, but good no snow. If 1991 one can pass the inspection plus some price drop ($3550), it will be good. The other one may start need maintanence. If 1991 is bad, then 98 corolla is good choice, ABS is not a big issue if you use winter tire.
But they are in different class, you will find legacy will be much quiet and strong on acceleration.
